George Mesires leads Faegre Baker Daniels’ Senior Housing and Care practice and the Chicago Finance and Restructuring group. George has significant experience in the senior housing industry, representing both for-profit and not-for-profit operators in a variety of engagements, including affiliations, acquisitions, financings, governance matters, restructurings and bankruptcy. George gained industry recognition based on his role in many of the leading continuing care retirement community (“CCRC”) bankruptcy cases that plagued the industry beginning in 2011. Following the Great Recession, George wrote and spoke extensively about industry best practices, identifying key takeaways for operators to better prepare themselves for future financial challenges. Based on George’s recognition in the industry, George was asked to serve on the board of directors of Kendal Corporation, the 12th largest nonprofit operator of senior housing and long term care facilities in the country (also serving on the Strategy Committee), and The Admiral at the Lake, the oldest senior housing and long term care provider in Chicago (also serving on Audit, Governance and Resident Services & Compliance Committees), and has been sought out by operators to lead restructurings, acquisitions and sales transactions post-recession. George speaks and writes frequently on senior housing issues and is the legal columnist for Senior Housing News.
